Our Kinship Project explained …
Happy beginning of summer 2022 and the start of our tenth summer of enrichment camps. Later next month, LHCC will be celebrating all that the Lord has blessed us with, and also open our Kinship Kitchen to our friends for a delicious meal prepared by our families. We are often asked what is this kinship project, so allow me to share a few thoughts.
LHCC launched a new game-changing community engagement platform in early 2021 to benefit potentially under-leveraged churches and congregations. Our vision is to determine how to leverage the experience we have gained over the past eight years, to prototype two key components of non-profit community work.
Firstly, what inspires Christians to step out in faith and help under-served local community members in our midst? We want to secure a meaningful answer to the question "What inspires people to care, two miles that way?"
Secondly, we desire to define what kinship really means, across cultures, and in such a way that congregants, Christians, and unaccompanied citizens might experience what we have been blessed to witness and consummate, as it relates to social capital and trusted relationships.
Our belief is that piecing together this exploration of kinship will lead to something more sustainable for what we see as declining churches and volunteer engagement.
“The mission of our LHCC Kinship Kitchens is to bring people together around the common necessity of food to enjoy cuisine from around the world, break bread together, and build lasting kinship relationships.”
Next post will address some challenges and also provide an update on our Summer Day Camps that started today at our host church, St Andrews UMC.
Until then, enjoy the summer and grateful that you read all the way to the end.
Blessings
